Around Southern California, hillsides turning green and wildflowers blooming into sprays of color can mean only one thing: spring is finally upon us. This year, with shelter-in-place recommendations keeping Pasadenans closer to home, some have feared that they will miss out on this beloved annual bloom. Thankfully, two of South California’s iconic gardens have put their tours online, allowing residents of the Pasadena luxury residences at Terraces at The Ambassador Gardens to keep this important seasonal tradition alive while staying safe.

For more than 50 years, Descanso Gardens has provided the people of Los Angeles County with 150 acres of meticulously landscaped garden, including 30,000 tulips in every imaginable color. While the garden is opening up in May to a limited number of visitors, anyone can enjoy the unbelievable spread of tulips, thanks to a virtual tour that the Gardens put online. The variegated tulip garden harkens back to famous fields of flowers planted all across Holland, and visitors, both physical and digital, will marvel over the deep hues and delicate shades of these unique flowers.

A little closer to the Pasadena homes at Terraces at The Ambassador Gardens, The Huntington Botanical Gardens has uploaded a number of virtual tours to their website, giving visitors intimate digital access to many of the sites around their 120-acre property. Check out the picturesque Japanese Garden, complete with the wooden Moon Bridge overlooking the Koi Pond, the Rose Garden tour with more than 3,000 individual plants, and the Dinosaur Plants Tour, which recreates the environment that would have supported herbivores a hundred million years ago!

The Huntington is also home to an art museum and library with more than 11 million items spanning the last 10 centuries, including examples of art and literature from around the world. Curious minds will love The Huntington’s online library portal, where they can explore collections of high-definition scans of items ranging from mementos of local California history to illuminated medieval manuscripts, all from the safety of their Pasadena home. The Terraces at the Ambassador Gardens is going digital as well as offering private onsite tours. The virtual tours will take you around the property and into our model homes.
